Film Roll of the Month - October

While doing some cleaning in early October, I came across one of my family’s point-and-shoot cameras from the pre-digital days, an Olympus Zoom2000. In its day, this camera produced great photos. I recall using this camera a lot to take pics of the kids and around the house - every day life.

Now, when I looked at the back of the camera, my eyes got as big as saucers when I saw it had a roll of film loaded inside! I added a new set of batteries, turned the switch to the ON position and saw that eight photos had been taken.

What are these photos? When were they taken?

The bigger question - did the film even survive after YEARS sitting inside the camera. Old film degrades even in the best circumstances, but half-exposed film? I don’t like the odds here.

Still, let’s take our chances and use up the rest of the roll and see what happens!

I spend the rest of the month taking the camera around and taking pics of random stuff. Cars, my dogs, nothing too important. This is an experiment at this point.

At the end of the month I finish off the roll and take it to my local lab. As I drop it off and explain the situation.

I come back about an hour later - yes, they do one-hour film processing. I can tell by the look on the lab owner’s face, the news is not good.

Check out this strip of negatives - blank. Time was not good to this half-exposed roll that had been sitting in a drawer for about 15-20 years.

So, I don’t have any film images to show you this month. Sorry, but I couldn’t let that partial roll go without at least trying to see what was on it. It could have been something amazing - or it could have been a snapshot of life 15 years ago, which would have been very cool in its own way too.

Onward to November!

Are you ready? I'm ready.
